A DNA Project There is currently no documentary evidence to link the some of the generations or branches of the Brogd*ns, for example:
One way to establish the relationship is via DNA testing. Several other surname groups have undertaken projects, linked to the Guild of One-Name Studies, in which males undertake DNA tests. Male DNA tests can show family links across many generations because the Y chromosome is passed to each male offspring; unfortunatley female tests do not do this. The results of the tests can prove that male A is related to male B, even where there is no documentary evidence for a relationship. The tests can also show the very distant ancestry as to which of the early groups of humans the person descends from. The detail provided by DNA tests has considerably increased in recent years whilst the cost has decreased. Several testing companies now specialise in family history. A group scheme for Brogd*ns with one of these testing companies may qualify for discount. Testing is a simple matter of stroking a swab (supplied by the company) on the inside of the mouth and posting it back. It makes little difference where the company is located as the test kit is very light to post. The test results are displayed in numerical form and the interpretation is standard the world over. I am currently working out the details of a group DNA testing scheme. If you are an interested male Brogd*n and would like to know more detail, or (without obligation) when the scheme is ready to run, or already have DNA test results to share, please email me. Meanwhile, I will display the necessary information on this website. Mike Brogden email link 08/05/2006
